The outermost islands in the open sea

Værøy & Røst

With an early-morning boat and a return at midnight, in summer you can experience the unique islands of Værøy and Røst in a single day.

Here you meet dramatic nature, rich birdlife and a silence rarely found elsewhere. It's entirely possible to make a day trip out to these fantastic places.

On Røst you can join a RIB tour from Røst Bryggehotell past the old bird cliff and the weather-beaten Skumvær lighthouse, and hear the story of Pietro Querini — the Venetian nobleman shipwrecked here in 1431. On Værøy, a fine trail leads up to the viewpoint Håen (438 m), with one of Lofoten's most photographed views, and a detour down to the rounded-stone beach at Sørlandshagen is well worth it.
